After a hard fought contest we are delighted to announce that the winner of the best Indie and Small Press Comic of the Year 2017 is..

Something City by Ellice Weaver and Avery Hill Publishing

Pipedream Comics Editor Alex Thomas reacted to the win by saying: “It’s been another amazing poll for Indie & Small Press Comic of the Year and we have a fantastic winner in Something City. It’s a book that personifies the small press spirit of creativity and originality. It’s beautiful to look at, but with a depth and subtlety to the story-telling that makes you come back to it again and again.”

Upon hearing the news Ellice told us: “I’m so pleased that Something City made it into the shortlist let alone won. Making Something City was so fun and so challenging, It was probably the thing I thought most about for an entire year. Working on it was a team effort, Avery Hill are so on it! I exchanged 350 emails with Ricky whilst making and editing the book… they work hard! To put Something City out and to get such lovely feedback is truly the most rewarding feeling.”

We were also able to catch up with Avery Hill’s PR guru Katriona Chapman who was equally as excited, telling: “We’re delighted that Something City has won this award. Ellice put so much hard work into the book and we really believe that she has produced something special. Awards like this are so important in helping us to raise the profile of the work that we put out and we’re incredibly grateful to Pipedream Comic for nominating Ellice. Congrats to all of the other nominees, it was a brilliant selection of books and it was great to have been considered amongst them. Thanks to everyone who voted and all of those who have supported this book since it came out. Ellice is a wonderful creator and person and deserves all of the accolades coming her way.”

When asked about the overall result Editor Alex Thomas said: “With over a thousand votes cast, it got a fantastic number of votes to be a convincing winner, but we want to thank all the people who voted on all the titles as it is a great showcase for how engaged and supportive the small press community is!”
