The Pull List #7 – Discover Small Press
Small Press means different things to different people. For some, it’s a world of art students producing hand-printed fanzines put together with long-armed staplers. While for others, it represents the freedom to tell interesting and eclectic stories without needing approval from a publisher. And it’s this diversity that we love – so we chose to celebrate it in the latest issue of our indie comics fanzine The Pull List, with our Discover Small Press issue! Available now from our Gumroad Store!
We were inspired to celebrate Small Press after a visit to the East London Comic Arts Festival in June and so we’ve picked five of our favourite creators and talked to them about their inspirations and the stories behind their books. These include Jonathan Cape award-winner Matthew Dooley, Avery Hill’s new superstar Ellice Weaver, Human Garbage creator Josh Hicks, NPC-Tea’s Sarah Millman and Cosmos’ Rozi Hathaway. All five of these creators encapsulate what is great about the world of small press and we hope that by discovering their work you can embrace the wonders of the community, too. We also have an amazing cover from Sub Diablo creator Darrell Thorpe.
And, as ever, we have a reviews section packed with the best new indie and small press titles for you to discover, as well as show reports from ELCAF and ICE in Brighton. And look out for our amazing guest column from Afterlife Inc’s Jon Lock looking at the struggles of being a small-presser at one of the UK’s largest comic conventions. Until next time!
