Although we don’t often find ourselves covering ‘the galaxy’s greatest comic’ on here, we thought we’d make an exception for this year’s 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special as it features an all female team of writers and artists tackling the world of Dredd and co for the very first time. It’s a veritable who’s who of UK talent from established names like Leah Moore and Alex de Campi alongside up and comers like Olivia Hicks and Abigail Bulmer, as well as a FutureShock from the incomparable Tillie Walden, which is reason enough to pick it up in our book!

As the weather begins to warm and comic fans and creators begin to brave stepping outside their front door, convention season begins to spark into life. The next on our calendar is the always excellent Leamington Comic Con on April 14th, which is set to feature a guest appearance from Judge Dredd creator John Wagner, Loki writer Al Ewing as well as a host of great indie and small pressers as well! We take a look at what you can enjoy on the day!

Judge Anderson Psi DivisionIDW Publishing’s latest offering from Mega City One is a new on-going series for a 2000AD fan favourite in Judge Dredd, Anderson PSI Division #1 which, like Judge Dredd: Year One, follows Anderson’s early days of law enforcement. However, do the creative team do her character justice? Or is it just a crock of stomm?

This week’s must-read digital comics include three slices of sci-fi from different points on the spectrum. On the dark side are the official Dredd movie sequel comic book Judge Dredd: Underbelly and Joshua Hale Fialkov and Joe Infurnari’s dystopian time-travel series The Bunker and on the shinier side is Uproar Comics new sci-fi graphic novel Leap!

This January, duty calls Judge Dredd to the West Coast, in the destructive new miniseries Mega-City Two: City of Courts! After entering a partnership with Rebellion/2000 AD, IDW has explored Dredd’s past in Year One, and taken him “Into the Cursed Earth” in his ongoing title, but with a truly unique creative team on Mega-City Two, Dredd will go up against the unfamiliar and depraved like never before!
