Not only will October 14th be the date of the excellent Nottingham Comic Convention (more on that soon), but it will also be the anniversay of one of the small press scene’s most charming publishers – Steve Tanner and Time Bomb Comics willbe celebrating a decade of small press and to celebrate this, will be releasing a revived version of their first ever book. We step bak in time with Steve to find out why!

Pirates, highwaymen and clockwork soldiers, set in the 18th century – it’s a pretty unique premise for an indie book and it’s why Steve Tanner’s Flintlock is one of the most interesting reads on the small press scene. Keen to find out why he set his book in the 1700s and the merits of a great female lead, we caught up with Steve to find out more.

Take one rotten rival to Lady Flintlock’s highway shenanigans, one ship full of hungry and putrid and survey pirates and an ill thought our robbery and you have all the ingredients to Steve Tanner an friends’ newest offering, Flintlock No.2 from Time Bomb Comics, all sitting behind an Ian Kennedy cover no less.

flintlock2-coverFollowing the very successful and modest campaign that saw the publishing of Time Bomb’s first issue of Flintlock, the second Kickstarter is up and running and has been, to date, just as successful. So, this isn’t so much a spotlight on the new campaign to encourage you, dear readers, to save it from publishing limbo, but rather a torchlight swung towards this anthology to highlight the book and the promise of further bonuses once the stretch goal has been met.

Flintlock 1Ahead of the Birmingham Comics’ Festival this coming weekend, I thought I would mark the debut of my new reviews column ‘Olly’s World of Indie‘ by looking at three titles debuting at the festival. Even if you’re not there, but like the sound of ‘em, hunt them down, or speak to your local comic book store. Indie is where it’s at, and these independent titles can often offer something completely different to your average superhero diet.

FLINTLOCK#1 PREVIEW coverWith a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign behind him, Steve Tanner, Flintlock writer and Time Bomb Comics’ Godfatherly figure, has kindly offered us here at Pipedream Comics a first look at this debut issue. The comic itself intends to create a shared universe of characters set in the 18th century and will span the entire century as the stories progress and unfold.
