Digital Comics CoalitionMark Waid is no stranger to the world of digital comics, thanks to his digital imprint Thrillbent and his work on Marvel’s Infinite comics he has become a de facto godfather of digital comics. Well he has taken that role one step further with the announcement of a new digital comics super team – The Digital Comics Coalition – and their debut webcast that is set to reveal some of the inner secrets of the world of digital comics!

App-of-the-Year-2014As a warm up to our year-end awards and the prestigious Digital Comic of the Year poll, (which will be coming very soon), we decided to get our readers in the voting spirit with a poll to tell us which was the best digital comics app and reveal the Pipedream Comics’ App of the Year 2014.

We picked what we thought were the 9 best, (and then gave readers a 10th option to tell us where we were completely wrong!). They got voting and we can now announce the winner is…

We’re huge fans of digital comics on the iPad here at Pipedream Comics (just read our list of the 10 best iPad comics apps here) and maintain that the hi-res retina screen of the Apple tablet is absolutely the best way to read you favourite titles. However with so many people having smartphones as well, we thought we would take a look at the best iPhone digital comics apps that you can try that really make the most of the smaller devices capabilities – but don’t include digital comics giant ComiXology‘s Comics app!

Scrollon is the brainchild of fim-maker Doug Lefler, who we spoke to back in June as well as previewing some of the brilliant stories available via the iPad edition. But today, Doug and Literate Imagery have announced an update to the Scrollon app which provides full support for the iPhone which should further develop their nefarious plan to take over the world of digital comics!

From filmmaker Doug Lefler it uses a unique sideways scrolling interface that lets readers consumer their digital comics as one long narrative based on Chinese Scrolls. It’s available to download now from the iTunes Store and is a truly unique reading experience and one we wanted to find out more about so we contacted Doug to try and get to the bottom, or should that the end, of this exciting new concept in digital comics.
