MightyTitan1This Kickstarter funded comic from writer Joe Martino takes the emotive subject of cancer and uses it as one of the central premises for a superhero adventure. This first issue of a 5 issue mini series was successfully funded last year and is now available via Martinos’ website, and may sound like a glib or insensitive way to treat such a serious subject, but Martino uses his own experiences as a way to give his book a smart and emotive central core, without  wallowing in bleak self-analysis. This makes for a title that should appeal to those affected by cancer and those just in need of an entertaining read and as such is well worth checking out.

Please help support this brilliant local convention which is run not too far from the Pipedream Comics offices. After a fantastic debut last year it is looking for help to run again in 2013. Offering the chance to meet writers and artists like Kieron Gillen, Andrew Wildman, Simon Furman, Mike Collins, Lee Townsend, Emma Vieceli, Kate Brown, Paul Duffield, Ben Oliver and Rob Williams, not to mention local comics fan from here in the south west, it’s already aiming to be bigger than last year so please lend a hand!

Back in March we spoke to George Lentino, publisher of Moonshot Digital Comics, who was setting out his plan to revolutionise the world of digital comics with “innovative, experimental and down-right fun to read comics”. Well the first title,  from that stable, Deluge, is about to be released with the team of film-maker turned writer J.D. Oliva and artist Richard Clark at the helm. After hearing about all the great things that George had planned for his new line of digital comics, I got in touch with J.D. to ask him about his inspiration for Deluge and just what exactly the Moonshot Digital experience entailed.
