The Beast of Wolfe's Bay creator Erik EvensenBack in the 1990s we were all believers in the things that went bump in the night thanks to shows like the X-Files, but these days everyone is much more sceptical. Well writer/artist Erik Evensen is set to change all that with his brilliant new graphic novel The Beast of Wolfe’s Bay released this week via ComiXology. This self-published supernatural story sees struggling palaeoanthropologist Brian and folklorist Winifred investigate mysterious disappearances in the small town of Wolfe’s Bay that may or may not be connected to a mysterious gorilla like figure seen at the scene of the crime. Winifired’s sheriff father is convinced it’s got a supernatural subtext, but who or what is really behind it all? Packed full of twists, turns and terror, but with a brilliant light tone that’s reminiscent of Scooby Doo, The Beast of Wolf’es Bay is a fantastic read, and so, like Mulder and Scully, we set out to find more about this small town’s secrets and contacted Erik hoping to find out the truth behind this mysterious beast.

When it comes to digital comics, it is easy to focus on the new and cutting edge, however, it is also a fantastic medium for rediscovering the past. The Certified Hunt Emerson app is the latest release from Panel Nine, the company who released the audio graphic novels Kickback and Dapper John and who’s publisher, Russell Willis, we have spoken to on the site previously. The Certified Hunt Emerson collection brings together a selection of this infamous British ‘comix’ artist’s work into one place and gives the audience a unique insight into each page thanks to Emerson’s own audio commentary and introductions to each piece which gives the work. Unfortunately there aren’t audio tracks for every strip and you can’t scroll between pages while the tracks play, which is a shame, but it still helps to give the respective pages a fantastic insight as you hear about their intricacies from the man himself.
