New Worlds Comics appWe often hear digital comics described as a brave new world, but Guy Hasson has taken that description literally and used it as the name for his new line of digital comics. With a mix of dystopian sci-fi and smutty humour, New Worlds Comics titles like Wynter and Goof are available via their own storefront  app and from this month on ComiXology. We caught up with Guy to find out about his plans for a globe-spanning digital comics empire.

This weekend’s must-read digital comics include: Marvel’s latest cinematic movie prequel in Amazing Spider-man Infinite; Archer Coe and the Thousand Natural Shocks, a hypnotic new indie series from Oni Press; and Needles and Dust an Israeli digital graphic novel app from Tsach Weinberg.

ActiveIconWe’re always excited by new methods of digital story-telling here at Pipedream Comics, and so our curiosity was piqued last week when we heard about the brilliant Re:Active app from Psychic Bunny. Offering a really original approach to digital story-telling by using some of the iPad’s internal features (like the accelerometer) to develop stories you read by interacting with them. To find out more about how this exciting project came about we contacted writer and artist Asa Shumskas Tait to get the lowdown.

Sequential – the literary graphic novel iPad app, is having a special promotion on Graphic Novels from Britain, as part of which they’re reducing the price of acclaimed graphic novel VerityFair by Terry Wiley from $9.99 to just 99 cents (69p!) until the end of September.

This week’s must-read in the Sunday Digest include Dark Horse’s Catalyst Comix from Joe Casey, artist Mike Henderson’s writing debut on Masks and Mobsters #9, a look back at the first 6 issues of app-based digital comic Upgrade Soul and new web comic iPhone app Multiplex from Gordon McAlpin.

sequntialSequential is the brilliant new digital comics app from Panel Nine, the team behind deluxe graphic novels like Verity Fair and Dapper John. Taking those titles, and putting them under one handy storefront, alongside books from other small UK publishers like Knockabout, Myriad and Blank Slate, it’s a fantastic way for out of print titles from comics legends like David Lloyd, Alan Moore and Brian Bolland to reach a new digital audience. Keen to find out more about this unique app we contacted publisher Russell Willis to ask him for the lowdown on this new venture and how it was set to take on the might of ComiXology!

Upgrade Soul is the new digital comics project from artist Ezra Claytan Daniels, developer Erik Loyer and composer Alexis Gideon. It’s a fantastic sci-fi graphic novel in app form with it’s own unique audio soundtrack it tells the story of aging couple, Hank and Molly Nonnar who are given the chance to extend their lives by upgrading their souls. But all is not as simple as it might seem and the events play out with exquisite, highly detailed artwork from writer/artist Daniels and moody atmospheric music from Gideon. It’s so much more than just a page turner though with a fantastically readable user interface and motion graphic elements within each page that help it really come to life. Upgrade Soul is an absolute gem of a title, so we got in touch with Ezra, Erik and Alexis to find out just how this fantastic project came into being.
