For our third look at this past weekend’s True Believers Comic Festival, we are going to take a glimpse at what life was like behind the table, as editor Alex Thomas makes his convention debut with Pipedream Comics and an Indie Shocase special edition of The Pull List!
Dead Canary Comics
We’ve all had crappy days at work, but what would you do if that dull day in the office was suddenly interrupted by giant mutant space monsters smashing the world to bits? Well, if you’re Last Driver’s Frank Sudden, you pack up your stuff, steal your bosses car and head off onto the highway to kick ass and make dinosaur barbecue.
The western may not feel like the most modern of genres, but it’s one that is getting a bit of a renaissance on the indie and small press scene thanks to some imaginative ideas and a few slightly more old fashioned ones too. We look at some of the best indie western books including: High Noon Rising by James Mulholland, Reddin from Dead Canary Comics and West: Justice from Angry Candy comics.
Dead Canary Comics are set to hit the indie big leagues with the release of their newest book Last Driver, which hits Kickstarter today. Featuring artwork from indie legend Shaky Kane it’s a psychedelic retro road movie with irradiated insects and giant purple dinosaurs, tangling with an ass-kicking BBQ loving hero in a red corvette. We catch up with writer Chris ‘C.S.’ Baker to find out more about Last Driver and working with a comic legend.
The new issue of our indie comics fanzine The Pull List is out now and in it we celebrate the best of small press and the independent spirit of comics! We have an exclusive interview from UK comics legend Shaky Kane, discussing his new book Last Driver, with exclusive looks at some of the stunning artwork involved. and even have an exclusive variant cover for this issue! You can purchase it for £0.99 from Gumroad!
