For the third track of his epic musical fantasy series 7String, creator Nich Angell has changed key mid-track and gone off in a new digital direction. Now available online as well as via webcomic portal Tapastic, we tune up the band and aim to strike a chord with the continuing adventures of sword wielding maestro Zach Briarpatch and co.

kickstarter_of_the_weekIt’s a ridiculously busy week for new indie comics Kickstarter’s this week, which has made the choice for our Kickstarter of the Week extra tough. However, we’ve decided to nominate the wonderful Jon Lock’s new volume of Afterlife Inc. aka Man Made God for the prestigious title. The adventures of Jack Fortune and his super duper tie, continue as he looks after the private enterprise that is the after life, along with his motley cast of misfit sidekicks. Jon’s work has a truly epic scale to it, and the world building he packs into every issue is unbelievable, not to mention the trademark Jon Lock humour which helps make each volume of Afterlife Inc darn readable as well.

Pull List 03The new issue of our indie comics fanzine The Pull List is out now and in it we celebrate the best of small press and the independent spirit of comics! We have an exclusive interview from UK comics legend Shaky Kane, discussing his new book Last Driver, with exclusive looks at some of the stunning artwork involved. and even have an exclusive variant cover for this issue! You can purchase it for £0.99 from Gumroad!

BPM_logoEarlier in the year we attempted to catch up with the unstoppable force that are Big Punch Studios, to find out about their first 12 months of Big Punch Magazine, as well as look forward to new 7String and Afterlife Inc. Inevitably with a gang who write comics, publish magazines, create hit table top games and now podcast as well (not to mention have lives away from comics!), it’s taken them a little bit of time to reply! But we were lucky enough to catch up with Jon, Ali, Nich and Lucy on a rare pause on their journey towards global domination to ask them: how it’s all going?

7STRING Volume 2Continuing the comics as music theme from the first arc, Nich Angell’s 7String returns for a new digital adventure on ComiXology with tracks 4 and 5. And just like a musician who has to follow a strong debut with that ‘difficult second album’ Nich looks to continue his epic fantasy series, but can they reach the heights of their predecessors or will they fall to the bottom of the charts?

7String #1Have you ever heard the quote ‘war divides, music connects’? Well, Nich Angell hasn’t if his epic series 7String, about a world at war whose weapons are musical instruments, is anything to go by. Now, nearly four years since its initial release, Big Punch Studios bring the first three ‘tracks’ to comixology. Will this title cause a bum note with readers online, or will it’s release be music to their ears?

BPM5While the big publishers have the resources and clout to make their comics on a regular monthly fare, small press is not quite as fortunate as their limitations force them to take a more ‘as and when’ sales plan. However, Indie powerhouses Big Punch Studios continue to fly in the face of the big guns with the fifth installment of it’s quarterly comic magazine BPM. Will this quality quartet (and their friends) continue to land the knockout or will their second year start with them hitting themselves in failure?

You’ve got to love a multiverse! Afterlife Inc and 7String creators Jon Lock and Nich Angell certainly do, as they have followed up their Heavenly Chord crossover with a a new monthly magazine called BPM which features a whole host of new character as well as some old favourites. Produced by the fearsomely titled Big Punch Studios, they are ably assisted by letterer Lucy Brown and writer Alice White so we caught up with them to find out what BPM is all about.
