birmingham-comics-festivalWhat a month we had celebrating all things comics and comic book related over April at the Birmingham Comics Festival 2016. Building on last year’s freshman offerings, this sophomore showing was braver and bolder, with a good mix of events both entertaining and informative, and all inclusive in one way or another. A festival for the people, if you will. Our roving reporter Olly MacNamee gives us his guide to the month’s activities.

The Birmingham Comics’ Festival: The full scheduleThe full list of all the Birmingham Comics Festival’s events running across April have now all been confirmed and set in stone, from a Mike Carey signing, to a very special one-off exclusive screening of Future Shock! The 2000AD Story at the Mac, Birmingham with guest speakers Ian Edginton, Jimmy Broxton, Ian Richardson and Phil Winslade, the list has grown and expanded to encourage all ages, all interested parties, to get involved. As you can see for yourselves, below:

lscc_logoAfter attending smaller events like True Believers 2016 this year, going to London Super Comic Convention 2016 is a bit like watching your favorite band at Wembley Stadium after only seeing them in a nightclub the week before. Sure the scale is impressive, but does it lack a certain intimacy that you get with the smaller shows? We find out?

True Believers 2016With 2016 now in full swing, the time has come for convention season to get underway and first out of the gate is the trip down to Cheltenham Racecourse as neither the heavy winds or torrential rain seemed enough to dampen the spirits of the fans, creators or agents alike making their pilgrimage to the new con on the block, True Believers Comic Festival 2016.

Screen Shot 2015-08-07 at 14.11.10This weekend we returned to the sleepy Wiltshire town of Melksham for one of our favourite events of the year – Melksham Comic Convention 2015. It may not be the biggest event or have the most high profile names, but it creates an opportunity for comic fans of all ages to get together and celebrate their passion with like-minded friends – and after all, isn’t that what events like this are supposed to be all about?!

Screen Shot 2015-08-07 at 14.11.10It’s not long to go before our friends at the Melksham Comic Con 2015 open their doors for another year. One of the best local conventions in the UK, we catch up with Conventions organiser to find out about their plans for this year’s events and what’s been happening with her and her team.

True Believers Comic FestivalOnce upon a time, to go to a comic book convention was an expensive daydream for many UK fans due to them being exclusively an American event. However, thanks to events like the London Super Comic Convention, Thought Bubble and smaller shows like the Melksham and Leamington Cons, it has become a reality for UK comics fans. The latest to join this every growing roster is the True Believers Comic Festival held at Cheltenham Race Course, on February 7th. But was it a thoroughbred, or just a show pony?
