With a line up that featured a veritable who’s who of the U.K. Small press comic book scene, along with some top name guests from the Big Two and beyond, Nottingham Comic Con has become one of the most anticipated events of the year. So for our last convention of the year, we made the trip up north for the first time, to enjoy a great day that not even a fire alarm could ruin!

As one of our favourite events from 2016, this year’s Bristol Comics and Zine Fair had sky high expectations, but they managed to more than managed to live up these high hopes thanks to an incredibly well run event packed full of exciting and diverse creators in a really fun and packed (and most importantly full!) venue.

This weekend sees the Bristol Comics and Zine Fair return to The Station in Bristol between 12.00 and 6.00. This free to enter event was one of our favourite shows last year and this year’s event features an amazing line up of exhibitors, many of whom are familiar names for readers of the site, as well as some fantastic new up and coming creators.

Thought Bubble continue to be the pinnacle of the Comic Convention calendar for indie and small press comic creators, and this year’s event looks set to be even bigger and better than ever! With a guest list that include some of the biggest names in comics (such as Brian K Vaughan, Sara Pichelli and more) alongside the very best of the UK indie scene it’s a must attend event for anyone who loves comics. We take a look at some of the books being released on the weekend.

When it comes to venues for a comic convention, you won’t find many more picturesque than the Blackfriars Priory in historic Gloucester – home to this weekend’s True Believers Summer Variant. This ancient priory was a truly one of a kind venue that made for a really fantastic day out for punters and creators alike.

Back in February we were lucky enough to take part in the amazing True Believers Comic Festival (our first time behind a table and one of our favourite events in the convention calendar!). Well in just a few weeks on Sunday August 20th, Stuart Mulrain and his team of believers will be running another event, this time in Gloucester’s Blackfriar’s Priory – so here’s what you can look forward to at the True Believers Summer Variant Edition!

Hot on the heels of ELCAF, comes another new comics and zines fair based in the capital. The South London Comic and Zine Fair (SLCZF) is set to take place at Stanley Halls South Norwood on the 15th July and will again shine a light on the London based self & micro publishing community with a selection of fantastic creators showcasing their wares!

It was a hot and sweaty Saturday in East London as we headed to the picturesque round house chapel in Hackney for the sixth annual East London Comic Art Festival (ELCAF). Our first visit to what we have been told is the premier event of the year for small press comic creators, and a festival with an emphasis on the DIY and micro-publishing world, where  the talk would be about litho printing and long arm staplers  rather than the latest superheroes! And we couldn’t wait!

This July the comic creators of Wales will all be congregating in the Masonic Hall in Cardiff for the annual Cardiff Independent Comic Expo (CICE). Alongside fantastic guests such as 2000 AD stalwarts like Jon Davis-Hunt and Henry Flint, will be some of the most exciting small press creators going, including some who aren’t even from Wales! We catch up with event organiser Iz McAuliffe to find out more about this year’s next must attend comic convention.
