With it’s unique location in a medieval friary, and it’s chilled out atmosphere, the True Believers Summer Variant was one of our highlights of last year’s convention circuit. With only a week to go until the big day this year (August 5th at Blackfriars Priory in Gloucester), we caught up with organiser Stuart Mulrain to find out more about what’s in store and the pros of running an event in a quirky venue!

This weekend saw the first ever Comics Summit in Cheltenham, the brain child of Big Punch Studios’ Jon Lock it was a chance for indie comics creators and newbies alike, to find out more and discuss the wonderful world of indie comics with their peers, without the need to have a table and sell your wears. But could this convention without customers be a success?

This July sees the first ever Comics Summit, a chance for indie and small press comic creators to share their knowledge and experience with each other, without the stresses of also having to man a comic convention table and make sales! The brainchild of Big Punch Studios’ Jon Lock, we caught him on a rare moment between marketing, making videos and re-organising venues to find out more about what The Comics Summit is all about.

A glorious venue, a beautiful sunny day and a great selection of comics to check out – you couldn’t have asked for a better set of circumstances for the fourth Leamington Comic Con. Our roving reporter Alex Thomas heads up the M5 for weekend of small press comics in a truly unique setting.

This weekend see the return of the fantastic Leamington Comic Con, one of the countries best small comic cons with an emphasis on comics and small press at it’s heart. With this year’s event seeing appearances from 2000 AD legend John Wagner and Marvel writer Al Ewing as well as the best of small press and Cosplay, we caught up with organiser Dan Mallier to find out what’s in store!

As “Comicons” increase in number and the term becomes ever broader to describe events with varying focus on comics, cosplay, merch and media stars of yesteryear the UK small press community has increasingly turned to small press events at willing local comic shops to introduce more readers to the world of independent comics, and last weekend the Incredible Comic Shop in Swindon held its second such event – our roving reporter Andy CT headed along!

Part of the blossoming comics scene in Scotland, Edinburgh Comic Con will return this April 14th & 15th for the fifth year, featuring a fantastic roster to big name comics guests, alongside the best of small press (and also guests from the world of TV and Film!). They’ll also be hosting their annual Yancy Street awards which celebrates the best of comics in the UK and around the world.

As convention season begins to pick up, we take a look ahead to Cardiff Indie Comic Expo (CICE) – billed as the return of Cardiff’s original independent comic show, it is taking place on Saturday 2nd June, 2018 in its original venue of the Mercure Holland House Hotel, Newport Rd, Cardiff. Tickets are available from the website, but we take a look at why you should be heading to the heart of Wales for a day of quality indie comics!

As the weather begins to warm and comic fans and creators begin to brave stepping outside their front door, convention season begins to spark into life. The next on our calendar is the always excellent Leamington Comic Con on April 14th, which is set to feature a guest appearance from Judge Dredd creator John Wagner, Loki writer Al Ewing as well as a host of great indie and small pressers as well! We take a look at what you can enjoy on the day!

A new year and new convention season is here again, and so it’s time for Stuart Mulrain and his team of agents to lead the charge as the True Believers Comic Festival (TBCF) kicks off 2018’s event season. Now into its fourth year, TBCF doesn’t look like it plans to go anywhere any time soon, but can they continue to impress as with prior events or is this a convention which has reached its peak?
